About Us

Our Founder

With over twenty years’ experience in design and creation of exquisite jewellery, Mr. Chrishanthus Angelo built a formidable business in 2003 that earned prominence in the Sri Lankan jewellery industry.

Being brought up in a village located in the North Western province of Sri Lanka, it is hard to comprehend that Mr. Angelo had a very simple start to his life.

Education alone does not guarantee success in life and Mr. Angelo is a prime example to prove this. When compared to some of his contemporaries, Mr Angelo has had only limited educational experience, yet he has made sure that it does not hinder his success in life.

In 1987, Mr. Angelo was employed by a leading gem and jewellery exporter in Sri Lanka known as Ellawala Exports. This provided him with the opportunity to be trained by the Japanese on jewellery manufacturing and enabled him to hone his skills. Following which the company was able to achieve the Presidential Export Award for jewellery manufacturing.

In 1997, Mr Angelo was employed by another jewellery manufacturer known as AMS International. The company was a BOI company set up in Sri Lanka operated by a German management. Having already acquired a decade of experience on jewellery manufacturing, Mr. Angelo was able to perform his role as the Managing Director of the company with much ease where his commitment and drive for success enabled the company to achieve the Presidential Export Award for that year.

Having acquired the expertise and the know-how in the jewellery industry in October, 2003 Mr. Angelo founded 'Chamathka Jewellers'

Our Company

In 2003, when Mr. Angelo founded Chamathka jewellers, there was no fashion trend for silver jewellery. With the mission of becoming a leading jewellery brand both internationally and locally, the first Chamathka showroom was opened in Battaramulla and in 2006 the flagship store was opened in Crescat Boulevard.

Currently, the company operates 16 outlets island wide and claims to be the largest jewellery retailer in Sri Lanka. The company also exports to markets comprising of Switzerland, Thailand and China. The company’s branch network comprises of high-end shopping malls, Keells and Arpico Super Centers such as Crescat, Liberty Plaza, Kandy City Center, K zone Ja Ela and Moratuwa, Watersedge and other Arpico supermarkets. It is important to note that although the company is largely present locally, 50% of its sales are earned from sales to tourists who visit Sri Lanka.

The exquisite jewellery crafted by highly skilled and dedicated craftsmen, excellent service offered by its sales team and the dedication by the top management to offer customers unique but affordable jewellery, continue to tell the success story of Chamathka Jewellers.
